It was a good mail week.. I received a copy of Baltimore based Jessica Hans‘ beautifully hand sewn zine, Felsgarten, which features images of her personal rock collection. Thanks Jessica.
20 pages
Edition size: 100
Price: $12 US / $15 Int’l
If you are lucky there are copies left, which you can order here.
I was lucky enough to see two of her handwovens in person at Vancouver’s Cheaper Show a few weeks ago. Whether it be books, handwovens, ceramics, or photos, Jessica is always making something beautiful.

See her “Featured Photography Portfolio” from a few months ago here.

Black book marks a new stage in the progression of the photographic work of Andrew Laumann. The results achieved by printing on the Risograph lend a depth of grime that meshes with both the subject and ethos of the work.

“The images contained inside this book are a testament to the longevity of the Emerica family, and are the kind of candid photos that document both the joy and the nightmares of what it’s like to be constantly traveling and endeavoring to create a video part at the highest level. Anyone who has ever gone on a skate trip with some friends or tried to film or be filmed skateboarding will immediately feel the connection and the common thread that connects all skateboarders together.” - Ed Templeton

Jackpot - Kevin Landers (Book) PowerHouse
“Kevin Landers intimately connects us with the quotidian objects and moments that make up the topography of New York City. Jackpot is a 17-year retrospective of his candid and unvarnished encounters with entities and artifacts that capture the grittiness, incongruity, and simplicity of a metropolis that harbors relics of all proportions.”

Stacked: Variations on the Artist Book
Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Stacked explores the formal and metaphorical qualities of the book. Works by seven Toronto-based artists re-examine traditional notions of artist books and zines using a variety of media. Ideas of sequencing, the repetition of pages, and the book as an object and a container for information will be explored through print media, photography, sculpture and installation. Beginning with the book as object and idea, this exhibition offers an unexpected interpretation of this ubiquitous art form.

Simulated Landscapes - Sara Cwynar
Friday, July 2nd, 2010

One of my favorite designers is Toronto based Sara Cwynar. Below is her newsprint book, Simulated Landscapes.
A visual exploration of Jean Baudrillard’s idea that we live more in media simulations of reality than in reality itself. The book is made up of 24 collages working from the idea of “simulated landscapes”.
Extension of Kitsch Encyclopedia. 16″ x 22″ Book
Printed on newsprint
